The governors at Roundwood School have an important role to play. We strive to promote school improvement and support the Headteacher and the staff of the school in their work.
The Governing body is led by the Chair of Governors, Dylan Edwards.
Some Governors are parents of children in the school, whilst others are members of the local community. A full list of Governors, their roles, pecuniary interests and meeting attendance can be found here.
It is a legal requirement for all schools to have a Governing Body. It is made up of representatives from Parents, Staff, the Local Authority and Community. A Clerk to the Governors is appointed by the Local Authority to take minutes of meetings and deal with other areas of administration. A Governor is normally appointed or elected for a 4-year term of office. Our governors meet every term for a full meeting and have committees for Standards and Curriculum and Buildings, Finance & Personnel (which incorporates Health & Safety) which meet half termly.
Governors bring their experience and knowledge from outside of education. They attend training provided by the Bucks Learning Trust to expand and develop their knowledge of all aspects of education to enable them to fully support the school. They visit the classrooms to increase their understanding of how children learn. Each Governor is linked to a curriculum area and meets with the co-ordinator.
The Governing Body is accountable to the Local Authority for the way our school is run. They are responsible for setting strategic direction, ensuring accountability, and monitoring and evaluating the school’s performance to ensure it always delivers a good quality education for every child at the school. Governors are not expected to get involved in the day to day running of the school; Mrs Handley, our Headteacher, is responsible for the internal organisation and management.
We aim to be visible at all school events so please do come and have a chat when you see us. We also have a termly newsletter which keeps parents up to date with the governor priorities and how we are supporting the school.
